Myths about Hammerglass - We clear them up

At Hammerglass, we attach great importance to clearing up misunderstandings and establishing clear facts. Old beliefs and outdated information can be a hindrance, especially when it comes to innovation, safety and longevity. Below we dispel the most persistent myths about Hammerglass to give you a clear picture of the unique properties and benefits of this material.

Myth 1: Hammerglass yellows over time

Fact: NO. Hammerglass stays clear and does not yellow. While older polycarbonate variants did indeed show yellowing, Hammerglass is an exception thanks to its advanced coating and nanotechnology treatment. The smooth silica surface provides 99.96% UV protection, which prevents yellowing.

Myth 2: Hammerglass becomes milky when cleaned

Fact: NO The unique, smooth surface of Hammerglass retains its clarity even after cleaning. It is resistant to standard cleaning agents, so dirt and smudges can be easily removed without affecting the transparency.

Myth 3: Hammerglass is on fire

Fact: NO Hammerglass is self-extinguishing. If it is ignited, it will extinguish itself, making it a safe choice for fire protection.

Myth 4: Hammerglass is comparable to Plexiglas

Fact: NO Hammerglass and Plexiglas (a trademark for PMMA) are fundamentally different. Hammerglass is 300 times stronger than glass, while Plexiglas is about 30 times stronger than glass. Plexiglas is prone to scratches, can become milky from solvents and burns when ignited - not so with Hammerglass.

Myth 5: Hammerglass is comparable to acrylic plastic

Fact: NO Hammerglass also differs significantly from acrylic plastics. It does not burn, is resistant to solvents and does not break on impact. Acrylic is easier to thermoform, but Hammerglass retains its advantages even in special thermoforming processes.

Myth 6: Hammerglass scratches just as easily as any other plastic

Fact: NO The hard-coated, smooth surface of Hammerglass is significantly more scratch-resistant than conventional plastics. Although it can become slightly scratched over time with heavy use, it is much more resistant to scratches than acrylic or Plexiglas.
