Safety glass for bridges

Safety glass for bridges is used for noise protection and fall protection and can be very functional and decorative at the same time. Hammerglass AB offers glazing and mounting solutions for all imaginable bridge solutions for roads and railroads, as well as for pedestrian and bicycle bridges. Thanks to the wide range of mounting methods for Hammerglass glazing, a bridge can be much more than just a passageway. The use of nanotechnology helps ensure that pollutants from exhaust fumes, oil and asphalt do not stick to Hammerglass as easily as they do to ordinary glass. The estimated service life of Hammerglass is more than 40 years.

Colour and light

Colour and LED lighting create an appealing eye-catcher. The Hammerglass panes can be screen-printed or digitally printed, so there are no limits to the individual design possibilities. The panes can be provided with municipal coats of arms or patterns that are repeated at regular intervals. For larger series of panels, it is possible to produce colour-impregnated hammered glass. A printed or colour-impregnated hammer glass pane with LED lighting forms an attractive point of light in the darkness at night.

Glass panes for ROAD bridges

No two bridges are the same. In densely populated areas, a noise-reducing solution is often needed, while in other cases a splash guard or fall protection may be preferable.

NOISE PROTECTION

The BRIDGE-2 and BRIDGE-3 systems are complete noise barrier systems for mounting on bridges along roads or railways. Depending on the design of the bridge, the structures are fixed to the bridge posts or laterally to the bridge edge girder.

SPRITZGITTER

The robust Hammerglass splash guard was developed for viaducts/crossings with carriageways on several levels. The inclined post system is based on the same principle as the Hammerglass electrical shields. The construction is usually bolted to the side of the bridge edge girder, but for bridge renovations or new construction projects, the post system can also be mounted with a base plate under the guardrail post.

Glass panes for RAILWAY bridges

Railway bridges usually require particularly stable construction solutions to withstand the vibrations and wind pressure of passing trains. The Hammerglass BRIDGE and GROUND sound insulation systems meet the high requirements for stability and safety when installed along railway tracks.

SILENCER ON THE WALL

GROUND-2 is a CE-marked noise barrier system with proven solutions for fixing steel and Hammerglass. GROUND-2 is designed for mounting on walls using screw groups.

When the Hammerglass GROUND system is installed on a railway bridge, all barriers are fitted with earthing bars and each section is earthed separately. A 45-degree bend at the top of the Hammerglass panels reinforces the structure while helping to effectively reduce low-frequency noise from trains.

GANGWAYS FOR PASSENGERS

Since the entire construction measure is usually to be carried out while traffic is running on the tracks, it is necessary that most of the structures can be fully assembled near the track area and then lifted into position.

Hammerglass' fitters mount all the panes in place while the steel skeleton is on the ground and then lift the entire construction into position. This kind of lifting would be almost impossible with ordinary glass, as movements in the overall construction would lead to glass breakage.

All panes are individually measured and manufactured so that installation goes smoothly even if the final construction does not match the drawing 100 %.

PROTECTIVE SHIELDS FOR RAILWAYS

A modern, electrical protective roof construction for covering overhead lines. The electrical protective shield is strength-calculated for snow and wind loads as well as for the wind load caused by passing trains. The construction complies with the electrical safety guidelines for electrical protective roof constructions for installation over railway tracks. The construction blends in with the surroundings and at the same time forms a solid barrier against live lines.

• 12 mm hammer glass mounted on a system of angle posts bolted to the side of the bridge edge beam

PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLIST BRIDGE

Flexible solutions for pedestrian and cyclist bridges. Mounting on existing structures or with a mounting system suitable for the pedestrian and cyclist bridge project. The Hammerglass panels are custom-made after the supporting structure has been assembled. The panels can be supplied clear, opal, coloured or printed and can be fitted with LED lighting.

THE ENTIRE BRIDGE CAN BE LIFTED INTO PLACE

To ensure that the panels fit perfectly, all measurements are taken after the steel structure of the bridge has been assembled. All Hammerglass panels can therefore be brought to measure in a parallel trapezoid to follow the contours of the floor and skyline exactly.

The Hammerglass panels are manufactured to the exact dimensions and assembled on site directly in the factory or on the construction site. Once assembly is complete, the individual bridge sections - or the entire bridge - are lifted into place by crane. Even if the constructions are stable, this kind of lifting would be almost impossible with ordinary glass, as movements in the overall construction would lead to glass breakage.

With Hammerglass in the construction, the time during which the carriageway or track area has to be closed to install the bridge is reduced to a minimum.

CUSTOMISED FASTENING SYSTEMS

Hammerglass is happy to actively participate in the construction phase of the bridge to ensure correct fixing and dimensioning.

Once the load-bearing structure is ready, Hammerglass panels can usually be mounted directly in it. If the structure needs to be completed with fastening details, we help develop suitable proposals.

COLOUR, PRINT & LIGHTING

The preferred solution for pedestrian and bicycle bridges is a clear or opal hammer glass panel. However, the possibilities for individual design are largely unlimited in terms of design, colour and lighting.

• The panels can be screen-printed with screened imprints or individual patterns to prevent bird collisions
• Hammer glass with blue grid printing and LED lighting results in a bridge that is transparent during the day but glows blue in the evening darkness
• The LED lighting in the handrail can be directed towards the Hammerglass panels for illumination at night
• Variable LED creates impressive effects
• For larger series, Hammerglass panels can be supplied colour impregnated

Design and assembly

Hammerglass screens are flexible and can be shaped accordingly to fit curved profiles. The screen can be tilted to any desired angle, depending on individual requirements in terms of sound reflection, light reflection and snow accumulation. Water drainage can be towards the bridge or below the barrier. Involve us in your considerations as early as the idea phase.
