Description
Protective glass for railways - Hammerglass
In cooperation with the Swedish Transport Administration, Hammerglass AB has manufactured a modern electrical protective shield to cover overhead lines as a replacement for the old protective covers made of sheet metal. The electrical protective shield is designed to withstand snow and wind loads as well as wind loads from passing trains. The hard and smooth surface treatment of Hammerglass helps to ensure that dirt and dust are washed off the roof structure by the rain in most cases. The surface treatment also provides 99.96% UV protection, which means that the material will not cloud, discolour or undergo any other change in visual quality over time.
A 12 millimetre LIFE SAVER
Protective shields save lives. In the vicinity of high-voltage and overhead lines, there is always a risk of electrical accidents with serious personal injury. The roof construction made of break-proof hammer glass complies with the electrical safety guidelines for electrical protective roof constructions for installation on bridges over railway tracks. The construction blends in with the surroundings and at the same time forms a solid barrier against live lines.
- 12 mm hammer glass mounted on a system of angle posts bolted to the side of the bridge edge beam
- Solid barrier against live conductors
- Waterproof and tamper-proof
- Strength calculation taking into account snow and wind loads as well as wind loads from trains
- Meets the requirements for noise barriers set out in CE standard EN-14388
- Design class EXC2 or EXC3
- Can be mounted as a splash guard at road crossings
Structure and assembly
The canopy structure consists of 12 mm thick hammer glass mounted on a system of angled posts bolted to the side of the bridge edge beam. For bridge renovation or new construction projects, the angled post with base plate is mounted under the guardrail post. The roof structure is fatigue calculated by simulating snow load, wind load and wind load from passing trains and also meets the requirements for noise barriers specified in the CE standard EN-14388. The solution is watertight and tamper-proof and can be manufactured in design class EXC2 or EXC3. We are able to undertake complete contracts from the dismantling of existing protective structures to the installation of a new electrical protective roof in Hammerglass. Our designers provide finished drawings with fastening solutions in the form of dwg files.
